SUMMARY:Georgia Primary Election
DESCRIPTION:A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party’s candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Georgia utilizes an open primary system\, in which registered voters do not have to be members of a party to vote in that party’s primary. \nTo vote in Georgia\, one must be a citizen of the United States and a legal resident of his or her county. The voter must be at least 17.5 years of age at the time of registration and 18 at the time of the election.[6] \nRegistration must be completed at least 28 days prior to the election. Registration can be completed online or by submitting a paper form.[6]
